Club Sections and Activities

Although there is a central committee responsible for the basic organisation of the club, most club activities are organised on a section basis. Currently there are sections based in the following areas:

Other events are sometimes organised by individual members outside of these sections and in other areas of the country. Activities include day rides to suit all tastes. These include club rides suitable for all the family which are run at a very easy pace usually including refreshment stops, some longer distance rides plus other events for very old machines, lightweights and other specialist machines. There are also weekend and week long camps with daily rides and other activities. The Club and its members are regularly invited to participate in parades and static displays at shows and other large events around the country. There is also an extensive social calendar throughout the year including club evenings and dinners.

The Veteran Cycle Club is a FAMILY CLUB where everyone is welcome, young or old. Many of the rides are multi-paced or slow paced so nobody need feel left behind.

Although certain special events may be restricted to certain types or age of machine, most section runs are open to any machine that a member wishes to ride, or thinks will interest other members.

Special Interest Groups
There are also special interest/study groups within the club including:
  • The Dandy Chargers - (Hobby Horses) displays and short rides at various locations.
  • The Bartleet Group - Pre-1930 pneumatic and solid-tyred machines
  • Portable Cycles Group - Monthly rides for folding and other portable cycles of all ages.
  • Wayfarers Group - Recreating cycle touring from the 1920s - 1960s.
Major Annual Events

The Club has a number of annual events, some of which are listed below. For more details please see event listings in News & Views.

  • Boot & Back Bash - A speed judging contest
  • Annual Club Luncheon
  • The Memorial Ride - Kidderminster
  • The Cambridge Fifty
  • Windsor Great Park Ride (for pre-1914 machines)
  • Annual Club Camp
  • Reading Lightweight Ride (for classic lightweights)

There are also various weekend events and day rides dedicated to particular lightweight/classic marques e.g., Hetchins, Bates, Thanet, etc.
