Highwheel Century Ride
This ride will provide the opportunity for those who would like to attempt the challenge of completing a 100-mile ride on an ordinary bicycle. A “century” was always considered a landmark in one’s cycling palmares, but the chance to complete such a ride on an ordinary is quite uncommon. A flat route has been planned which comprises four laps of 25-miles each, returning to the ride HQ at the completion of each lap, where complimentary refreshments will be available to riders. The ride HQ is Longwick Village Hall, from where riders will depart from 0600hrs. Sign-on and a complimentary light breakfast will be from 0500hrs.
The route has been designed to give riders the option of completing 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles, simply by riding one, two, three or all four laps. Those riders who complete the full four laps will be inducted into the Highwheel Century Riders Association.
Whilst we would encourage participants to use original Victorian ordinaries where possible, we also welcome replicas and modern penny farthing interpretations.
A gpx route of the course will be sent to all entrants.
Pre-booking is essential with a payment of £35 to cover the cost of venue hire and refreshments. Non-members may attend on payment of an additional £2.00 temporary membership fee.
Camping is available at an extra cost of £10 per tent, and this must be booked in advance, or alternatively, accommodation can be found in local pubs (details of options can be provided).
For those staying locally on the Saturday evening, there will be a communal evening meal in the local pub. Diners will pay for their own meals.
